CYCLING TOURS

A number of cycling tours are arranged throughout the year.

Members arranging the tours will send more information regarding tour dates, routes, costs, etc. by

e-mail via the Club Secretary.

Tambotie tour

From the 5th to 7th June 2009, KKKCycle will be hosting the 12th Tambotie Tour.

On the 5th everyone will be arriving at Bosveldrus, Vaalwater (200km from Pretoria). Dinner will be provided and there is a cash bar.

Saturday 6th October is a 170km ride to Ellisras, via Melkrivier and Marken. Your car can stay safely at Bosveldrus. Following vehicles will follow the cyclists and transport your clothing while food, water and cold drinks will be supplied. Spare parts, tubes and tools will also be available.

The first 100km (compulsory) will be relaxed and you may thereafter ride the next 70km at your own pace. At Ellisras you will receive a light lunch and substantial dinner. Accommodation is at Machauka Lodge and two people will be sharing a room and bathroom.

On Sunday the ride will start after breakfast (variety of cereals/porridges, breads and coffee) and follow a 115km route back to Vaalwater. Please note that this is not a very flat route. At Vaalwater brunch will be provided and you can swim and/or shower before returning to Pretoria.

Due to the limited accommodation, there is only space for 60 cyclists.

KKK tour

2009 will be the 7th KKK tour, hosted by KKKCycle, and will run from 7th to 12th September 2009.

The tour will start in Knysna, from the Ashmead Resort (where your car can stay safely for the duration of the tour).

The first day will take us from Ashmead to Wilderness, over the Phantom Pass and 7 Passes road. This section is 75km long, has an ascent of 1055m and will take around 3.5 hours. We will stay at the Fairy Knowe Hotel.

The next day will be a 105km route, with a 1055m ascent, from Wilderness to Oudtshoorn. During the 5.25hr section, we will ride through George and over the Montague Pass to our overnight spot at Kleinplaas.

The third day will be a ride over the Swartberg Pass to Prins Albert, where we will overnight at various guesthouses. The section is 92km long and has a 1785m ascent. Your luggage will be brought to your guesthouse by donkey cart. This is also where we will spend a rest day for day 4.

Our next section will take us from Prince Albert via Meiringspoort to De Rust. Once again you will be accommodated in various guesthouses. The route is 80km long and has a 765m ascent and will take around 3.5hours to complete. Accommodation in de Rust will be at Onse Rust Chalets, in the main road – next to Pink Olifant.

We will start from Pink Olifant the next day and cycle to Uniondale, where we will stay over at the Uniondale Koshuis. This section is 70km long, with a 1090 ascent and should take about 3.5 hours.

On the final stage you will ride the Karoo to Coast race of 100km, with a 1690m ascent. All the luggage will be taken to Ashmead Resort before the end of the race.

Tour fees include accommodation, meals, energy drinks, transport of your luggage and a cycling shirt. There will always be a following vehicle behind the cyclist and a bike mechanic and parts will be available.
